Jason nasceu em 23 de junho de 1977 em Mechanicsville, Virginia, subúrbio de Richmond. É um artista muito eclético, com muitas e variadas influências artísticas, incluindo estilos como o reggae, pop, rock, folk, jazz, e hip hop.
